Meetings
Our ten monthly membership meetings are held on the third
Tuesday of each month (excluding July and August), and often feature guest
speakers from the community. Normally they are held at
lunchtime in the downtown Buffalo area where a majority of our members are
employed. At least three of the ten take the form of luncheon or dinner
meetings and are held at various restaurants in the greater Buffalo area. The
Association’s annual meeting and election of directors is held in April.
Continuing Legal Education
WNYPA also sponsors an annual seminar for which CLE credits
are awarded. The day long or half-day sessions are designed to provide for a
more in-depth study of specific areas of the law than is possible at monthly
meetings.
Job Bank
The Job Bank informs members of prospective job
opportunities in the local community. Because our NFPA membership entitles us
to job bank reciprocity, WNYPA members have access to nationwide employment
information promulgated by other NFPA member associations; likewise, our
employment information is made available to other NFPA members.
Specialty Sections
Presently, WNYPA offers specialty sections in several areas
of practice. These groups schedule speakers and more informal discussions to
address topics of specific interest to their area of practice. CLE credit is
available for many of these specialty section presentations. WNYPA members are
entitled to participate in any or all of these sections.
Surveys
Surveys are conducted to inform members of employment
conditions, job responsibilities, salaries, and types of paralegal employers
in Western New York.
Speakers Bureau
The Speakers Bureau provides volunteers capable of
addressing students enrolled in local paralegal educations programs and those
contemplating a paralegal career, as well as members of the legal community
and the public-at-large who may desire more information about the role of the
paralegal in the delivery of quality legal services.
